Description

Take home a piece of Pacific Bonsai Museum with this unique enamel pin.
Designed by Seattle small business owner Zack Bolotin, this pin is meticulously modeled after our famous "Captain Hook" sierra juniper. The pin measures 1" x 1".

n 2015 Pacific Bonsai Museum acquired its first bonsai as an independent museum: a Sierra juniper nicknamed “Captain Hook.” In many ways, this bonsai--created from native American material, styled in a contemporary form, the first Ryan Neil-styled bonsai to be included in any public collection--was emblematic of the Museum’s focus and position as innovators and champions of American bonsai.

This bonsai was named in 2012 when Curator Aarin Packard, then Assistant Curator at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum, went to study with Neil. Packard became enamored with the bonsai and suggested the tree be called ‘Captain Hook’ in reference to the unique deadwood feature hanging over the rim of the pot. Neil agreed and the moniker stuck. Little did Packard know that eventually Captain Hook would be added to the collection of Pacific Bonsai Museum three years later under his care as the new Curator of Pacific Bonsai Museum.
